Townsville Chinese Club — Mandarin Class
The origin of the Mandarin Class
Townsville Chinese Club Mandarin Class was established in 2002 to promote learning the Chinese language (Mandarin) and culture in the Townsville Community. The purpose of this website is to inform both current and potential Mandarin Chinese language learners. On this website you will find links to useful language learning resources and get an idea of what to expect if you are interested in learning Mandarin with us.
Learn at your own pace - beginners to intermediate
Don't worry if you have no idea what Mandarin Chinese sounds like or looks like. We do our best to make language learning interesting and fun in a warm, friendly atmosphere with multimedia, language games and real conversation practice with native speakers.

Why learn Mandarin Chinese language?
Mandarin Chinese is spoken by more people than any other language in the world. China is Australia's biggest trading partner and the fastest growing economy in the world. China is a relatively cheap, but fascinating travel destination. Mandarin is spoken by Chinese people living overseas in many places outside China including Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam, Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, UK. Knowing something of the Chinese language can help you to make contact with these people and learn about their culture.
What else does the Townsville Chinese Club do?
You can learn to play the traditional game of Mahjong from experienced masters.
Cultural events like Chinese New Year and the August Moon Festival are celebrated with a lunch prepared by members of the local Chinese community.
Sometimes club members get to meet famous visiting artists from China and view their exquisite and unique artwork.
